yes! not long from now, i shall kiss goodbye to undergraduate life! i heard that doing honours is not any better but still, i prefer doing research to studying like hell for exams.

on the final day of the data collection spree (yea, i actually enjoyed going there every friday =.=”), we went for a celebration at Sushi Zanmai, Sunway Pyramid. i recommend all of you to eat the gyoza! yum..

conclusion: life as a researcher is not that bad after all =)

a Nobel Laureate – Dr Raj Pachauri had just come to my university to give a speech on the IPCC.  he was awarded the Nobel Prize together with Al Gore last year.  anyway, i’m not gonna say much here.  my exam is only one week away! T.T  

and, guess what? the fuel price is increased by 40% today! argh, i really wanna buy an electric bike right now!  oh yeah, Honda is currently selling the very first hybrid car in this country.  it costs about RM170,000.  yea, not bad at all.

the first turtle was rescued from a retention pond in the TNB power plant nearby. it got sucked up into the pond which was supposed to hold the water needed to cool down the equipments. someone spotted it and alerted the WWF which quickly headed over to the place and got the turtle out with the help of the local fishermen. the team leader said there were already a few turtles trapped in there before this. once there was a turtle which got too tired of swimming, it fell asleep as soon as it touched the ground. imagine what could have happened if the rescue team were to be notified late. the person-in-charge should come up with some plans to solve this problem. back to the story, the team released the turtle back to the sea on the beach of Ma’Daerah. a ang mo leng chai carried the turtle to the sand and allowed it to crawl back into the sea. such an unforgettable moment! ahem, i’m talking about the turtle.

the second one had already finished laying egg when we reached there. it was around 7 pm. we were at the exhibition hall, listening to a presentation by the team leader. then, she got a call from the patrol team. somebody must have prayed hard before that. a turtle was spotted on the beach. we quickly changed into dark clothes and pants (a necessary thing to do as the turtles are sensitive to bright-coloured stuff. we must not let them sense our presence before and when they are laying eggs. they may abort the plan as soon as they detect human presence). the turtle was quite large in size, about one meter long measured from head to tail. as we were waiting for her to bury the egg, a dark mass appeared in a distance. ( forgot to mention that the waves were quite strong. i nearly got washed away, luckily someone grabbed my hand. phew!) it took quite a well for her to climb onshore. we were told to sit still until she found a place to lay her eggs. however, she went away in the end without laying eggs after surveying the area. there was another one already digging a hole at another place while we were looking at the turtle. a lucky night indeed!

when i was young, my family and i went to Rantau Abang which was very famous for leatherback turtles then. one night, we actually managed to see one which left without laying eggs. let me tell you what happened. the turtle was surrounded by large groups of humans. people were taking photographs with flashlights. people used torchlights to shine on her. people touched her. people basically frightened her. i can say that most of the turtles that come onshore generally suffer from these harassments. this is why turtles rarely return to that place now. Rantau Abang is a failure. Ma’Daerah is quite secluded cuz the beach is made private. and people are not allowed to stay on the beach after 6 pm. people have to make request to WWF before they can stay a night or two there.

there were rocky shores on both sides of the beach. we’d decided to go for horizontal rock-climbing. it required physical and mental strength, ok? anyway, we didn’t manage to go the other side of the rocky shore except for Jo and Bob. they were good climbers, i must admit.

we played games every night to kill time. chor dai dee, bluff, 007, blackjack and blah blah blah. i could spot people playing card games from far away and quickly rushed over to join in =P we played truth or dare and did some wild stunts. that was really hilarious and fun. ahem, all the conversations are confidential and will not be disclosed here. did i mention that we even played that game on the bus? haha but we took off the boring truth part. the ones chosen would have to perform the act.

oops sorry , this post is kinda dry. i didn’t bring my camera. well, i guess i’ll have to go around and collect the photos in the next few days. please stick around and wait till i collect them all. our beloved seniors – Eileen and Tse Yuen accompanied us to the trip. seriously, i’d totally forgotten about all the due dates and exams throughout the trip. it was really relaxing and fun with the ocean breeze and sandy beach and definitely the turtles and playing with bunch of friends. it was worthwhile going there after all. before this, i was quite stressed up with the workloads and the approaching exams. i wanna go back to that place right now.

anybody knows “ice and water”? there was a Korean drama in which one of the characters played this game with a bunch of kids. The funny part is that the character had been standing idle for three hours because everybody went home and she insisted on obeying the rules. And then she asked the main character to touch her lightly and say “ting” to set her free. Ahhaha, So funny. Anyways, I used to play this game with my cousins when I was young.
